Phil Sanderson out as Oakville Rock Head Coach; Matt Sawyer takes the reins

Oakville Rock General Manager Josh Sanderson announced Friday that the team has relieved Phil Sanderson as the team's Head Coach. The Rock have started the MSL season 0-7, but you still have to imagine it was not an easy decision for Sanderson to let his friend and cousin go.
"Obviously we haven't got off to the start we wanted," Josh Sanderson said. "As difficult as a decision as this was, I feel it's the right one for this team moving forward."
Matt Sawyer, who is currently an Assistant with the Toronto Rock in the NLL, will take over Head Coaching duties for the remainder of the 2015 season. Sawyer is familliar with a lot of the Rock's young players, who played under his watch while winning Minto Cups with the Orangeville Northmen in the Junior A circuit.
After starting the season 0-3 using a number of call-ups, the Rock have performed better with a strong nucleus of young players like, Jason and Jeremy Noble, Wes Berg, Rob Hellyer, Bryan Cole and Dan Lomas, but still haven't been able to find the win column.
The Rock will look to pick up their first win Sunday against Kitchener-Waterloo, 6PM at the Waterloo Rec.
